What is Court Petition Drafting?

An Advocate on Record (AOR) is a lawyer specially certified by the Supreme Court of India, and only an AOR is authorised to file a case before the Supreme Court. This certification is issued exclusively by the Supreme Court, under its own rules, after an advocate clears the AOR exam.

India has 25 High Courts serving 28 states and 8 union territories, so it's not exactly a "one state, one High Court" setup. Several states share a common High Court. The Punjab and Haryana High Court covers two full states plus a union territory, the Gauhati High Court serves Assam along with neighboring northeastern states, and the Bombay High Court has jurisdiction over Maharashtra, Goa, and nearby union territories. Larger states like Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and Rajasthan each have a dedicated High Court of their own. Why You May Need a Type Copy Before Filing?

Courts require every document filed with a petition to be clearly legible. If an order, FIR, charge sheet, or any annexure is handwritten, faded, poorly scanned, or otherwise hard to read, the court registry can raise it as a defect during scrutiny. This delays the listing and hearing of your matter, sometimes by weeks. To avoid this, an unclear document is retyped into a clean, accurate replica called a Type Copy, matching the original content exactly, so it meets the court's readability standards.

A legible Type Copy is also essential for WebLex to draft your petition accurately. Our legal professionals rely on the facts, dates, and details in your documents to prepare a court-ready draft; if the original is unreadable, we cannot verify or draft from it. Do note: a Type Copy cannot be prepared from a document that is entirely blank, illegible, or where content cannot be reasonably made out.

Type Copy charges are separate from your drafting fee and are billed per page. This cost is not included in the petition drafting price and will be communicated to you upfront if your documents require type copying.
